Rhian Skirving
Writer/Director/Producer/CameraStarting out as a researcher and production manager for Prospero Productions gave Rhian experience across all subjects and styles of documentary production made for both Australian and International Television.
Since working as a freelance Writer/Director her work has taken her all around Australia filming for the Prospero Productions' and Discovery Animal Planet’s The Snakebuster series.
Also with Prospero it has taken her to Micronesia to search for, and discover, WWII Japanese shipwrecks for the National Geographic/ABC’s history and adventure series the Shipwreck Detectives and to the waters of Turkey searching for Ancient Greek shipwrecks in Shipwreck Detectives II.
Her most recent documentary, The Kindness of Strangers, was filmed in Sri Lanka after the 2005 tsunami. The film explores the science of altruism and compassion and won Rhian the 2007 national Eureka Science Prize for Science Journalism, the 2006 ATOM award for Best Documentary Human Story, and a Remi Award at Worldfest Houston International Film Festival.
This is the first production Rhian has produced through her production company LETTERBOX FILMS and the first time she has held the camera while directing.
